Curriculum Vitae(back to TOP)
Dr. Akira Kikuchi is an ecologist who is interested in the robustness of living system. His research question has been gWhy living system continues, and how it has robustness making contradicted balanced-relationship?h The thought was decads ago.

He was born on 2 August 1971 in Sendai, Studied at the Faculty of Education (bachelors), Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation (IDEC) (master and PhD) in 2003 at Hiroshima University.

The title of his ph.D. was 'ecohydrological study on spring-fed wetland in warm temperate zone of Japan'.

The concept was extended more human impacted large ecosystem as gLandscape Ecological Study on Water Demand and Water Quality Rehabilitation in Relation to Social Development of Hiroshima Cityh funded by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Chugoku Regional Bureau, Japan. He worked as a post-doctoral fellow in Fuculity of Integrated Airt and Sciences and then IDEC in Hiroshima University in order to organize and manage the project from 2003 to 2005.

He was a research associate of IDEC in 2006, and then he was assistant professor in Hiroshima University from 2007 to 2009. Currently, he is a research based associate professor in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. His research fields are Ecology, Hydrology, and which is extended towards Participatory and integrated approach for Biosphere Conservation.

Currently, he is developing multiple water quality monitoring system as UTM-water quality monitoring system. The gconvenienth system is being applied for environmental education, and also integrated coastal and watershed management projects in Islam and Environment.

Research(back to TOP)
He considers ecosystems as the object of researches in system biological perspective. Thereby, biodiversity and its habitat conservation, as well as ecosystem service management are considered in the landscape ecological context. In an approach, cause of environmental problem is analyzed solving revise problem in landscape ecological course-effect chain: changes in land use => changes in material flow => changes in ecosystem services/performance. Many researches are on the structural, response, and quality analysis for the processes. Then R&D for the process engineering is proceeded in the ecosystem level manage perspective. Currently, watershed and its combination with costal environment is his big interest, in which, participatory and integrated ecosystem management is now his most hot issue. Due to the reason, he has been developpping gbooklet with easy-to-use water quality test kith and ghigh performance multiparameter convenient water quality analytical systemh. The convenient approach is now examined for the participatory and integrated ecosystem management, and environmental education. In that, collaborating with Islamic scholars he is doing research on the application of Islamic thought in environmental education in Islamic countries in order to consider a question gWhat is Strategic Participatory and Integrated Approach for Coastal and Watershed Management and Conservation suitable in Islamic Countries?h.

Teaching(back to TOP)
As he is a research base associate professor, he only have lecture for research methodology to the final year student, and mostly supervise postgraduate student in research base.
